Zugspitze atmospheric observatory gets a new research dome
In two TV interviews, atmospheric physicist PD Dr. Ralf Sussmann outlines the new equipment at Zugspitze and focal points of atmospheric research in the European context.
The three atmospheric observatories of KIT/IMK-IFU Campus Alpin measure long- and short-lived trace gases and aerosols in the atmosphere. The location on the Zugspitze at 2964 m a.s.l. is particularly suitable for this purpose, since local emission sources are minimized and the site is representative for large areas of the northern hemisphere. The research goal is to better determine the effects of the gases and aerosols as known drivers in climate change and to understand their adverse health effects.
