The research-greenhouse is a state-of-the-art facility to study plant and soil responses to changing environmental conditions. The facility consists of four separate compartments in which air temperature, air humidity, radiation, carbon dioxide concentrations can be regulated individually. In these compartments we study the responses of soil monoliths, mesocosms, tree seedlings and saplings to environmental perturbations associate with climate change. A custom-build measurement system (see picture below) allows to continuously monitor plant-atmosphere exchanges of carbon dioxide and its isotopes, water and volatile organic compounds under a variety of changing environmental conditions including heatwaves, drought and elevated atmospheric CO2.
